Pregnancy Due Date Calculator
How Your Due Date is Calculated
While a typical human pregnancy lasts approximately 40 weeks (280 days), calculating your exact due date is more of an estimate than a guarantee. Most calculators use the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) as the starting point, as most women do not know the exact moment of conception.
The Math Behind the Prediction
This calculator utilizes a modified version of Naegele's Rule. The basic formula is: LMP + 280 days. However, because not every woman has a standard 28-day cycle, we adjust the calculation based on your specific cycle length. If your cycle is longer than 28 days, your due date is pushed later; if shorter, it is brought forward.
If your Last Period started on January 1st and you have a 30-day cycle:
1. Standard 280 days from Jan 1 is October 8th.
2. Since your cycle is 2 days longer than average (30 – 28 = 2), we add 2 days.
3. Your Adjusted Due Date: October 10th.
Understanding Gestational Age
Gestational age is measured from the first day of your last period, not from when you actually conceived. This means that during the first two weeks of "pregnancy," you aren't actually pregnant yet—your body is preparing for ovulation. By the time you miss your period, you are typically considered "4 weeks pregnant."
Trimesters Breakdown
- First Trimester: Week 1 to the end of Week 12.
- Second Trimester: Week 13 to the end of Week 26.
- Third Trimester: Week 27 to birth.
